LONGBURN.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) LONG BURN. July 15. Airs 0. Nicol spent, a few days in Wellington recently as the guest of Aliss X. Blundell. Airs Billing-hurst, of Auckland, vTio was the guest of Mrs Fletcher, of Karcre Road, has returned home. Airs W. D. Campbell lias received the sympathy of many friends in the death, which occurred recently, of her brother Mr Gilmer, of Hamilton. Airs J. Holland, who has lost a brother has also received the sympathy of a large circle of friends. A fine afternoon greeted tho W onion’s Institute for their July meeting. There was a good attendance, while visitors wore present from Linton and Tokomaru. ALs A. Piccard presided. Apologies for absence were received from Mewl nines Bonner and Sanson and Alias Zurclier. Invitations were received from Kairanga. W'liaknrongo and Aoknutero Institutes to their respective brithday functions. Mcsdnines Nicol and Murray wero appointed to tho committee for the next group rally. It, was decided to forward the required fee to the Centennial committee. An excellent demonstration was given by Mrs Tremaine, of Linton, on tlie making of soft toys. A splendid collection of toys was exhibited, and the members greatly appreciated tho trouble taken by Airs Tremaine, who was accorded a vote of thanks and presented with a posy of spring flowers. A toy was presented by Airs Tremaine for the funds: and Airs Pierard presented an organdie handkerchief sachet for the tea-towel fund. The sales tahle was bettor patronised than before. Afembers were reminded of-the “bring-and-buy” stall at tho August meeting, for a donation to the federation. The competition results were: Knitted cardigan or jumper, Afrs Chamberlain 1 and 2, Airs Young 3: ginger cake. Mrs Nicol 1, Airs Rowland 2, Mrs Holland 3; bloom, Airs Rowland 1, Airs Fletcher 2, Airs Stephenson 3. Tlie competitions for August are: Boiled raisin loaf, something now from something old. and best bloom from the garden. Thanks were extended to the hostesses Mesdamcs Alurray and Stephenson, also lo Mc-sdnmos Tremaine and McNab, who acted as judges for the competition.
