Airs Gibbons presided over an attendance of 17 members of the Women’s institute, a pleasing feature being the number of junior members. Airs Gibbons spoke of (lie great loss the institute and district had sustained in the passing of Alls Bunie, who had been a valued and loved member for a number of years. AJembers stood in silence as a mark of respect. Correspondence was read in connection with Home and Country, the president appealing for more subscribers. It. was decided to send a donation to headquarters for Centennial expenses. An invitation was received from Bells to their birthday. Letters acknowledging sympathy were received from Air Burne and family. The roll call. “The country I would like to visit and why,” brought interesting replies. The ginger bread competition resulted: Aliss Clare 1, Airs Gibbons 2. Best bloom, Mrs l’. Scott (hcaiimuriu) 1. Mr Wrightson (anemone) 2, Mrs Ivnight (iris) 3. Aliss Will gave a demonstration and talk on dressmaking, Aliss Teague acting as model. Airs Gibbons thanked all who had helped to make the florist window exhibit such a success, with special thanks to Air FI. Knight for making stands. It was decided (o hold the August meeting as usual, the competition being man’s sleeveless pull-over and the demonstration articles from felt hats. Hostesses, Alosdamos Alaxwell, Fieldhouse and Aliss Will, ll was decided to hold the birthday the night after the usual meeting, to take the form of a social evening. Aliss Wilson, of Bulls, is to be asked lo give her travel talk, illustrated by lantern slides. Airs Drinkwater’s resignation was received with regret, she having left to live at Waitotara. The trading stall and library did good business. Air Cioehelto’s trophy was won by Airs Gibbons. Afternoon tea was served by Alosdames C. and G. R. AlcKenzio and Florence. Mrs Barnett has again shown her generous interest in the school and children. The committee are endeavouring to raise funds lo tidy and beautify the school grounds, etc., and Mrs Barnett’s gift of a road gate to the school is much appreciated by the committee and all interested. lias for a number of years been a generous helper, and her latest gift will be a big assistance. Aliss AI. Rowell lias returned from an enjoyable visit lo Oxford (South Island) and Wellington. Air 15. Clare is visiting Nelson. Air Ji. Reeve has been visiting Tnuinaruiuii and Ohura. AJissns Blackmore and Adamson and Alessrs Lloyd Modern, Hoy Swain and A - . AJcKenz.ie (Wanganui) were week-end visitors to Air and Mrs .McKenzie. Air A r . Alcdxcnzie has been transferred from Wanganui lo 1 Janncvirke. taking up his new duties on Friday.
