DOMINION’S POSITION.

VIEW OF BUSINESSMAN. “There is no doubt that New Zealand will shortly lie facing a crisis as far as trade and business are concernedr’ declared Mr K. A. Henderson, president of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce, at the Chamber's annual dinner last evening. “The shrinkage of our country s overseas funds, and the fact that the Government’s policy of restricting imports has not yet made an improvement in the position is a very serious position indeed. “From a strictly business point of view, it appears to me that our country is endeavouring to carry on business with insufficient capital. It such a position arose in our businesses we would be faced with raising additional capital to carry on, or in the alternative, to go out of business. This appears to me to be one of the main problems which is lacing our Government at present, and the remedy appears to he the raising of further funds in London, to augment our sterling funds, and it is to be hoped that our Minister of Finance is at this present moment considering proposals of this nature in" London. “1 feel also that as businessmen we sometimes fail to give our present Government full credit for doing what they consider to lie the host in our country's interests. We may not agree with some of their activities, but we should always respect their views. If we find it necessary to criticise what is being done —and in business it is always necessary to criticise—then our criticism should he of a constructive nature, f am afraid that many businessmen sometimes take the line of least resistance, and start destructive ,-i-iiPi in. \"1 irh is of very little use ill I,i, mr ultimate aims.”
