AIR FORCE ’PLANE.

MISHAP AT ELLESMERE. Per Press Association. CHIHSI CHI KCH, June 9. While carrying out air-tiring practice over Lake Ellesmere about 9.30 o clock this morning, a K.N.Z.A.E. Yickcrs-Yildeheest machine crashed into the water. The jniot had turned the machine into the sun. One of tlie wings hit the water and the machine turned over. The jiilot was Acting-Pilot-Otficer R. M. Stewart, and the other occupants were Aeting-Pilot-Olfieers Y. B. de la Perrelle and J. C. E. Haytor.

The occupants escaped injury except for minor bruises and cuts. The ’plane was extensively damaged. Aeting-I’ilot-Ofiicer R. AI. Stewart is the eldest son of Air and Airs A. Stewart, of Kangitane Street, Palmerston North. He received his secondary education at the Palmerston North Boy's High School and began work in tin* office of Union Airways. While so employed he became interested in Hying. becoming a co-pilot for Union Airways. He lias been undergoing military training at Wigrani for nearly nine months and is due to return home shortly.
