The June meeting of flu: Opiki Women's lii.-lilnte committee was held on Wednesday. Miss ('. (,‘ooksley presided and the followin'; members were present: Mes(lames J. I). Aitehison, B. A. Norman, 1.. T. Webb, W. Irwin, A. K. While and W. Jackson (secretary). (’orre.spondenee received included notification of the playwriting competition being conducted by the Little Theatre Society, Palmerston North, the programme of the Manawheitua group rally to be held in Shannon and general information from the new Mannwulu Federation. The monthly llnancial report, given by the treasurer (Mrs White), reveajed a . satisfactory credit balance after the recent birthday social and dance. Arrangements were made for he next, meeting of the institute, when the husbands will be invited. An attractive programme lias been arranged which it is hoped will include a lantern lecture on America, “Golden Thread” on ilie early history of the district, “Over the Garden Fence.” a topical discussion on gardening matters by members of the gardening circle, roll call, “Sing. Say or Penny Pay,” and a special competition for which prizes have been donated by Mrs Aitehison and Mrs .Tack-on. Items will be provided by Time Road members and there will be a hring-and buy stall for institute funds. The competitions are to he for ihe best knitted singlet and the best bloom in the garden, and men's buttonhole. The hostesses will be Mcsdames Collins, Gregory, R. Horn, W.
