DEFENCE LEAGUE.
ANNTJAL CONFERENCE. WELLINGTON, June 8. Appreciation of tho services of its patron, Major-General Sir Andrew Russell, Hastings, its president, Mr Perry, AI.L.C., AVellington, and vicepresident, Air M. .E. Earraclough, Auckland, for tlio platform campaign they have conducted in various parts of the Dominion was expressed m a motion carried at the annual conference of the New Zealand Defence League yesterday. The motion was moved f>v Air M. M. F. Luckie. ' Sir Andrew Russell was re-elected patron and Air Perry president. Air E G Hewitt was elected secretary and Mr A. E. Gorton treasurer The following motion, moved by bir Andrew Russell, was carried:—that the Government be urged to set up at once a svstem of adequate training for those whose services would bo immediately called on in case war broke out. That in preparation for the expansion of the territorial force and the training of its first line reserves a sufficiency of instructors be immediately recruited and given an intensive course of instruction in order to fit them for their work as instructois.
