FIRST DAY TO-MORROW. FOOTBALL ATT.RACTION. Finishing touches arc now being applied to tlie exhibition stands at the iManawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association’s "Winter Show, which will open to-morrow and have a. duration of seven days and nights. It promises to lie tlie greatest educational display of its kind ever staged at this centre, and it is an exhibition which, both from district loyalty and an appreciaton of tlic attractions it offers, both .young and old should attend. The activities of the A. and P. Association play no small part in tlie corporate life of this cit.v, as well ns representing country organisation. Since attention has been drawn through tlic Press to the advantages of membership, there lias been a steady inquiry, and numerous applications have been received. Fifty-seven senior and seven junior members have joined the association since tlie last meeting of its general committee. The display by the Department of Agriculture will cover a wide range, being one of tlic most instructive at tlie Show. Tt will deal with the activities of tlie Fields Division, research into hydatids, the breeding and management of pigs, horticultural work, apiary instruction, poultry rearing, and veterinary problems. Model layouts for woolsheds and piggeries should lie most informative to farmers. The bacon exhibition will be ol an outstanding nature, providing information from all points of view—those of tlie farmer, the curcr, tlic retailer, flic housewife and tlic consumer. I lie AA’oincn’.s Institutes, which arc noted for tlicir handcraft work and domestic accomplishment, will be represented bv 18 courts in the form of a street of shop windows. Their display . lias been ail outstanding feature of the winter show in recent years. Farmers will find of particular interest (lie special mangold crop competition, to lie judged on tlie yield of dry matter per acre. Another novel competition will lie the judging of potatoes on points first raw and then cooked. Considerably more attention is now being paid to potato-growing in this district than formerly. . . The poultry and cage bird exhibition will nob open until YY odnesdn.y. A special outdoor attraction on that day will lie the Donkey Derby, in which the riders will lie prominent Awapimi jockeys. After being used as mounts for juveniles on tlie Monday and ’luesday, tlie donkeys should be in great order for the big event on Wednesday, when their recalcitrant and obstinate natures should be at tlicir best. ’lhe arrangements for the Derby are in the hands of Air AV. T. Bailey. Judging of fruit, vegetables, farm and school roots, seeds, grain, farm produce, needlework, knitting, arts and crafts and the Women's Institute courts will begin at 9 a.m. to-morrow, and tlie Show will lie officially opened at 2.15 p.m. by Sir Harry Batterbee, Higli Commissioner for the United Kingdom. The Rugby football match | between Te Auto College and tlie Palmerston North Boys’ High School is scheduled for 2.30 p.m. There will lie a Punch and Judy show and vaudeville session in the motor hull at 4 p.m. and 7.30 p.m., with a mannequin parade, arranged by tire P.D.C., Ltd., at 8.31) p.m.
