LAND IN ANTARCTIC.
UNDER MONROE DOCTRINE. WASHINGTON, June 7. Admiral Byrd informed the House of Representatives sub-oenimittoe which is studying the request for an appropriation tor an Antarctic expedition, that portions of Antarctica falling in the Western Hemisphere came under the Monroe Doctrine anil only 575 nautical miles separated Rainier Land from South America. He added that the expedition, for which a preliminary appropriation of 340,000 dollars was l>eing asked, would ultimately cost 1.000.000 dollars. The expedition would include three ships and a personnel of 200, and would probably leave on October 1 and return in six months, though it would carrysupplies for two years.
