HOCKEY
AMALGAMATION PROPOSAL. NOT ACCEPTABLE. Advice was received from the Feeding Hockey Association, at a meeting of the executive oi the Manawatu Hockey Association, on 'Wednesday, that the code was being carried on successfully there and that consequently tlio former did not think it would be in the best interests to consider the proposal of amalgamation. The chairman (Mr L. Martin): As far as the functioning of hockey is concerned. a player informed mo that last Saturday one team in Feilding had six players and the other eight. Stating that the Feilding Association controlled hockey in Taihape and Alarton also, and would not like to lose control there, Air F. AlcLaclilnn said he thought that if a vote of the player’s were taken they would ho in favour of coining to Palmerston North. The discussion then lapsed. Those present at the meeting were Alessrs Martin (in the chair), R. A. Brace (secretary). F. Tucker, 11. L. C. Aitcliison, J. Gallichan, J. McDonald, AY. Gough, Alcßachlan, R. Scales, D. Wilton, R. Beale and A. Eade. A letter from the United Sports Club, asking that, in view of the number of injuries received b.y junior players recently, the association request the Umpires’ Association to exercise stricter control over dangerous play by older and bigger junior players, is to be referred to the Umpires’ Association. The Phoenix Club wrote asking that in future teams, even though they arrive Irate, be allowed to play the full time of each spell at the expense of the half-time period if necessary. Previously, it was stated, the time of play was shortened. —The association resolved that the advertised times of commencement he adhered to, and that any team not turning out in time should lose by default. C. J. Hart was granted a transfer from the Broadway Club to the United Sports Club. Hockey will nob be played to-morrow afternoon owing to the Rugby football match between Te Ante Maori College and the Palmerston North Boys’ High School first fifteen for the Afoascar Cup. Air W. J. Fitzgerald was chosen as manager of the Manawatu team to meet Wellington at the Winter Show. The Dominion Association is_ to he asked to include Woodville in the Manawatu area. REPRESENTATIVE TEAM.
