BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS. The weekly mooting of the Palmerston North Literary ami Debating Society look place on Wednesday, .In 11. G." Mills being in the chair. Mr .1. Garde Grimshaw was rite adjudicator, the subject of the debate bong “That Reform is Needed in Modern Dress.” The speakers for the negative won. Mrs R. Livingston was awarded the S. M. Carlton Medal and the A. K. Wright Medallion. Those taking part | were: Messrs T. C. Watson, A. C. Philpot, R. G. Buchan, Mrs R. Livingston, Misses P. S. McGrath and B. Turner. The second part of the evening took the form of a social and dance to celebrate the 70th birthday i of Mr 'l'. C. Watson. Items were given las follow: Instrumental quartet. Messrs Wingate. Piper, Smith and Gough; songs. Misses McLaren and I McGrath. Mr H. Bennett; vocal duels. Messrs Bennett and 11. J. King; retaliation, Mr T. C. Watson: Mrs .7. O. Riddle and Miss McGrath played the : dance music, assisted by items from ! the quartet. Supper was served by the committee and congratulations were extended to Air Watson by Mr King. Thanks wore conveyed to the ad indicator and the performers by Air -Mills.
