DUST-FREE HIGHWAYS
DISTRICT’S RECORD. Mention was made at the annual meeting of the No. 9 District Highways Council meeting, in Palmerston North yesterday, that over halt the length of highways under the jurisdiction of the council now have dustfree surfacing, practically all the sealing having heen carried out since 1926. The details of the scaling are as follow : in. chs. Ordinary main highways ... 981 til State highways 122 10 District totals 003 71 Sealed or paved surfaces ... 252 70 Gravel or macadam surfaces 25L 1 District totals 503 7L It is stated that only one district, Taranaki, has a greater percentage of sealed reading.
