WEST END SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COAIAIITTEE. The monthly meeting of the A\ cst End School ‘Committee was held last evening. Those present were Messrs G. Tremaine (chairman), A. E. Tenfold, AV. Collins, A. C. McLean, J. H. Dalziel, H. Al. Bough (secretary) and H. W. Jackson (headmaster). Apologies for absence were received from Alessrs A. Penketh, AY. E. Schwa be and A. AV. Just. The headmaster reported tiiat tlie roll was 424, with an average attendance of 3SC. Tiie epidemic of influenza which had so adversely affected tiie attendance was on the wane. The report urged tiiat trespass notices lie placed in the grounds. It was recommended that tlie school ball lie hold on a Tuesday or a Thursday night as soon as possible after tlie AVinter Show. — Tlio report was received and it was decided to hold a meeting of the men’s and women's committees to discuss arrangements for the ball. Tlie Kairanga- School Committee wrote thanking the AYest End committee for tlie use of the school baths for swimming instruction. A donation of £1 Is was enclosed for tlie baths fund. —The letter was received with thanks. Tlie Wanganui Education Board advised that certain repairs were to be carried out at the school. —The liead-

master said the work had been done. Authority was given, in another letter from the Education Board, for the committee to bivestigate tlie possibility of having extra bicycle accommodation provided with local labour.— It was pointed out that authority had been given h,v tlie board for tlie expenditure of a sum up to £3O. The committee decided to explore the possibilities of engaging a local workman to build the extra accommodation. It was reported that an outside source of interference at the school out-buildings had been traced and action taken by the police which would ' prevent any lurther trouble from that, quarter.
