RUGBY FOOTBALL.
CLUBS AT PRACTICE. There was a good muster of members of the Old Boys Rugby Football Club on the High School ground on Saturday afternoon, when the firsfc_ official open-air practice was held. Owing to the hardness of the ground no game was played, although instruction was given in kicking, dribbling and physical training by the coach (Mr J. Ryan). On the Park Road grounds about 45 players from the United Club were initiated into a few tactical moves by their coach (Mr L. Findlay). They were all light men and should, to judge from their showing at the practice, become welded into a fine side. About 50 players of all grades attended the practice of the Kia- Toa Club at the Showgrounds. In order to secure a good standard of fitness, they were given a run, the sides not necessarily being composed of players of any one grade. There is some good material in the club, and this should result in strong sides taking the field.
