MANAWATU COUNTY.

TANGIMOANA IMPROVEMENTS. At the meeting of tho Manawatu County Council, yesterday, Cr. W. E Barber presiding, a letter was received from Mr L. V. Bishop who said ho desired fo rent' the section known sis the pound at a rent of 25s per year. —Agreed to. Mr J. L. Stewart (secretary of the Tangimoana Domain Board) wrote stating that for the past three years the Beautifying and Improvement Society at Tangimoana Lad collected the council’s subsidy for public conveniences. During that period the society had done nothing, lie alleged, •md did not intend to do anything. The Domain Board, which was now the controlling authority, had done any work necessary and lie suggested that the council pay its subsidy in future to the Domain Board. He outlined proposed works and suggested that tho council’s subsidy would greatly assist in these. The chairman said he thought that the society wanted support. Cr D. W. Reid said lie had been to Tangimoana lately, but he had not seen any work being done. The clerk (Mr A. K. Drew) pointed out that in 1037 the Beach Society was granted £ll 13s 6d, and last year £2 9s Cd had been granted for pipes. It was resolved that the matter of ti e cost of the sanitary arrangements at Tangimoana be left in the hands of the chairman and the clerk to deal with. The council watched a demonstration of a motor mower, and, on returning business later, decided to purchase a mower of this design for use on cemetery work The engine'*; (Mr H. V. Bond) reported that with reference to the proposed extension of Weightmaii’s Road for a distance of 66 chains through private property, he had made a further'examination of the position. To follow the route of tho old road reserve the cost would lie approximately £1646, which included the cost of fencing, hut not the cost of the area of land required for the road. To follow a more direct route, which would he quite satisfactory from the landowners’ point of view, the cost would be £I4OO, including the cost of fencing, hut not the cost; of the land. If tin’s road was constructed, the question of the forming and metalling of the remaining 13 chains of road before reaching Mr Wilson’s property, hut now in use, would have to be considered. This would cost £324. —Received.
