(From Our Own Correspondent.) BAINESSE, March 26. A harvest festival to raise funds for the Foxton Methodist Church was held ni Bainesse School. The evening opened with a hymn and the offering of prayer L>v Rev. R. Gric-e. Hie audience was indebted lo Mrs Whitehead, Mr Attwood, and Miss Clayton for the interesting concert programme, details of which are Eileen Ryan with girls’ chorus, “Tlio Girl in the Alice Blue Gown”; Mr Crowly and Miss P. Pillar, sketch; recitation, Ngaire Scott; song, school girls; Mrs Grice sting “In An Old Fashioned Town” and ‘‘Let the Groat Big World Keep Turning”; “Mother Cat and Her Three Kittens.” a play presented by Standard 2; gtr.s chorus, “I. Love to Whistle, ’ ‘ Overheard on the Marsh”; recitation, Mary Ijogg and lan Buchanan; “When My Dream Boat Comes Homo,” school girls’ chorus; humorous reading, Mr Grice; pianoforte solo, J»uise Cooke; recitation, Jack Baker; “Bar the Door,” a play by the children; recitation, Joyce Tennant, Mr Grice presented swimming certificates to the following: Beginners, Margaret Lcgg, Eileen Ryan, Douglas Sargisson, Henry Hines, Norma Scott, Joyce Tennant, Albert Ixigg a.nd Betty Frederickson; learners’ 50yds, Albert Lcgg, Joyce Tennant, and Betty Fredcrickson. Those pleasing results aro due to the able tuition of Mr Attwood and to the generosity of the Foxton Borough Council in giving tho children use of tho baths. Conveyance of tho children from the school to the baths was inado possible by a grant from tho Education Board. A farewell gift (a beautiful rose pink eiderdown) from the Sunday School children was presented by Mr Scott to Mr Grico. Mr Scott thanked him for his work in tho district and hoped that Mr Grice was moving to a cold district 1 o Kuiti, the gift would prove useful. Mr Grice thanked tho children for thotr gift, also Mr and Mrs Anderson for their willing help on several occasions, Mr and Airs Attwood for playing hymns, and prepnrI ing the school for services, Mr Attwood, Miss Clayton and Mrs Whitehead for preparing the concert, the School Committee, for use of the school, and Mr Murray, of Foxton, for taking Sunday school classes. Mr Grice, with the able help of Mr Anderson, concluded the evening with an auction of the produce ■which had been given by the residents of tho district. At tlio annual meeting of the Baines.se branch of the Labour Party. Mr M. J. Ryan presided. Reporting on the activities of the year. Air Ryan expressed thanks to all members for their assistance. Alemlxjrship had increased. There had always been a good attendance at the executive meetings. The financial position was satisfactory. There was one thing that caused much regret; their secretary, Air E. W. Thompson, had resigned to join a branch' in his own district. The district organiser (Air Bowator) was present.. Air Ryan pioposed he take the i chain for the election of officers for the 1 onsuing year. Before asking for nomina- ! (ions Air Bowator congratulated them on their work. The branch had topped the poll for the queen carnival by about £3O. Nominiations resulted : Air M. J. Ryan i re-elected president; Air A. Thessman, | vice-president; Aliss R. Adin, hon. secretary. Alctnbers are to form their own oxei eutivo committee. Air Ryan expressed thanks for tho confidence shown in him. and to Air Bowator for attending the meeting.
