INTER-ISLAND RUGBY.

SOUTH ISLAND CLAIMS. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Alarch 28. “There has always l>een some good excuse why we should not have tho match. Wellington officials like to see the game from the stand of Athletic Park. That is the main consideration. The South Island has had only a fraction of its rightful share of these games.” 'Those were some of the strictures passed on the New Zealand Rugby L’nion by Air J. K. Alolone.v, the president of the Canterbury Union, when, at a meeting of the management committee to-night, he urged that a protest be made against the failure of the parent body to alternate between the two islands the venue of the annual inter-island match. “This is the best game that New Zealand Rugby can produce, and it is only right that it should go round,” said Air Aloloney, who added that the selection of the All Black teams for Australia, England, and South Africa had always been used as an excuse to have the match played in Wellington. Dr. W. S. Seed agreed that strong representations be made to have the match played here this season. Another member pointed out. that it was three years since an interisland game had been played in the south Mr A. E. McPhail said the proposal had been made that an All Black team be sent to tour New Zealand. Surely it was far more practicable to hold the inter-island match at various centres in rotation. It was decided to make strong representations to the New Zealand U nion.
