SHIPMENTS OF GOLD.
CONTINENTAL TRANSFERS.
Received March 28, 11.30 a.m. LONDON, March 27,
Heavy gold shipments to the United States of America continue, and £13,000,000 worth left during the week-end. This was partly due to the fears of private hoarders that gold might become a frozen asset, or be sequestered in the event of war.
The Governments of small Continental countries within striking distance of Germany, including Belgium and Switzerland, are also transferring portion of their gold reserves to New York.
