JEWISH REFUGEES.
NAZI PLAN FOR MIGRATION. TALKS TO CONTINUE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, March 25. Conversations which recently took placed in Berlin between Mr George Rublee, the representative of the International Refugee Committee, and the German officials, were referred to in a speech by Earl Winterton, chairman of the refugee committee. He said that a statement on the emigration of refugees from Germany offered so much hope that it would ho possible to continue the conversations. The talks would not be ended by the deplorable events of the last fortnight. Though he was not at liberty to give full details, it could be said that the statement contemplates an orderly migration spread over five years of 150,000 able-bodied and SUUOUO dopendent non-Aryans in Germany. I lie statement, he added, suggested the reasonable treatment of persons awaiting emigration in Germany and an absence of molestation of the old and infirm.
ADMISSIONS TO BRITAIN
Yesterdav the Home Secretary, Sir Samuel lioaro, told the House of Commons that 4325 male and 3310 female German refugees of more than 18 years of age were admitted to Britain during the five years ended March, 1938, and that 2058 subsequently left. Between last March and October, 4500 from Germany and Austria were admitted, and 529 had since left. __ In the last four months, ending in February, 5667 from Germany, Austria, and Czechoslovakia arrived, and 566 left. In addition to these, 4404 refugee children from Germany, Austria, and Czechoslovakia were admitted. The Colonial Office announces that a commission, including Sir James Dunnett, is to fly to North Rhodesia under the auspices of the emigration planning joint committee of the refugees co-ordinating committee. Tlie commission will he associated w ith a North Rhodesian committee under the Director of Agriculture.
Hast week the Chamber of Deputies in Hungary adopted an Anti-Jewish Bill which curtails Jewish business and reduces the proportion of Jews which may be employed m trade and industry from 20 per cent, to between 6 and 12 per cent.. The Bill makes it almost impossible for middle-class and poor-class Jews to cain a livelihood.
