The harvest, in Canterbury is a full fortnight later than usual, the maturing of the grain from mid-January having been von- slow, it was reported at a meeting of the Wheat Research Institute by the director (Dr F. W. Hilgendorf). There have been no heavy rains, but the air, though sometimes warm, was for a long period almost continuously dam", so that ripening and drying took place slowly. In the second half of February. however, conditions improved, and in late February all samples coming in were very' dry.
