TAKARO TAKE HONOURS
CHAMPION OF CHAMPION RINKS
The final of the Manawatu Centre champion of champions rinks competition was played on the Northern Club’s greens on Saturday between Woodville and Takaru, the latter team gaining the title. Russell, Farrar, Harriman, Hearsey (skip) boat Forbes, Young, 51 id es, FI. P. Horne (skip) by 28 points to 12. The green was very fast. Takaro were the first to score, with a single on the first head. Woodville retaliated with singles on the next two to lead 2—l. Scoring w as fairly oven until tho ninth head, when Hearsey gained a 6ix to make tho 6core 10—6 in favour of Takaro. He increased his lead with a two and a four on tlie succeeding heads to lead 16 —6 on the 11th. Horne scored a single on the 12th and on the 13th head Russell, Takaro’s lead, was right on tho jack. Woodville failed to alter the head and the Takaro skip drew another shot with his last bowl, making the score 18 —7. Tho 14th head was a scattered one, Horne collecting three, Harriman on the 15th head drew a toucher. Most of the bowls were short. A measure gave Takaro three. On the next head Takaro collected one, and Woodville took two on the 17th. The 18th, a long head, saw Russell draw a foot behind the jack, but slules, with his first, trailed the kitty to lie one. Hearsey with hie first ran it off to get three. Horne was wide On the 19th Takaro wore lying one when the skips went down, and the subsequent play failed to alter the position. Woodville were now under the necessity of scoring 14 on tho last two heads to keep the game alive, and the task proved beyond them. The 20th saw Takaro collect a single, and clinch the issue, 27—12. The 21st head was played and resulted in another single to Takaro. DIXON CUP CHALLENGE. In a Dixon Cup challenge, the home team, Northern (holders) beat Levin. The score was: Kershaw, Larcomb, Astle, Skoglund (skip) 23 v. Wen ham, Sherwood, Hunter, Clements (skip) 10.
