THREE YOUTHS SENTENCED. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, March 24. Fifteen charges of housebreaking were shared amongst three .young men who appeared lor sentence belore Mr .Justice Northcroft this morning. Arrested in Dunedin, they broke out of the exercise yard at the Timnrn lockup while awaiting the hearing of charges of housebreaking there, and were consequently charged also with escaping irom lawful custody. The three men were Frank Dixon, Garfield .Frederick John “William Smith and Claude Byron Hill. Dixon alone pleaded guilty to six charges of housebreaking. On one other charge of housebreaking he was associated iuth Smith, and on four charges he was associated with Hill, while all three were associated on two charges of house-breaking as well as the charge ol escaping from custody. Announcing that he did not intend to discriminate amongst the three, His Honour said that, while it was true this was Hill’s first appearance in Court, he now appeared on some ten charges, while he, with the others, had yet to ho dealt with on lcur charges of converting cars. “These youths seem to have assumed a license to prey on the community as they think fit, and that attitude if not checked will lead to their spending most of their lives in gaol,” said His Honour. “My duty to them, as well as to the community, is , to put them under restraint.” All three were sent to tho Borstal for two years.
