WHITEHEAD—GOLDFINCH

Nuptial Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church on February 18 by Rev. Father Herlihy on the ocemsion of tho marriage of La vena Mary, youngest daughter of Mrs Goldfinch and the late Mr C. H. G-. dfinch, to Gordon Thomas, only son of Mr and Mrs P. Whitehead, of Palmerston North. The “Pater Nostre” was beautifully rendered during the Mass by Mr J. McGlineliy. of Christchurch, who was accompanied at the organ by Miss Bartlett, who also played the hymns. Mr P. Cosgrove, of Auckland, ably carried out the duties of usher at the church, the alter of which, was picturesquely decorated by the Sisters of Mercy.

Wearing a gown of ivory satin faconne, cut to form a train, which was trimmed with a. wide pleating, the bride was escorted to the altar by her brother-in-law, Mr W. F. Kearney. The corsage of the frock was deeply pleated into a high-low waistline, with a deep V neckline, and featured the new dolman sleeves tightly fitted to a point over the hands; a row of tiny buttons from neck to pointed waistline trimmed t-ho Lack. The lienutifii'lv embroidered tulle veil (lent bv her cousin, Mrs Smith, of Norsewoorß was held in place by a dainty coronet; a sheath of white gladioli completed a simple, but charming, toilette. Tfie attendants were the bride’s two sisters, Mrs Cosgrove (chief) and Miss M. Goldfinch, and her little niece, Heather Cosgrove, made a daintv trnin-lxvi.rer. Their frocks were of salmon pink eyelet taffeta, fashioned in a flared jacket ensemble, the coatees of which were fastened from the waist to a close-fitting neck, with tiny silver buttons; the slim-fitting skirts featured wide box-pleated frills on the hem-

line. They wore pink tulle veils and top knots of flowers and silver shoes. Their sheaths were of gladioli in shades of pink. The little maid’s frock was shirred and beribboned to the waist with a full length skirt.

Air AI. Waugh carried out the duties of best mail, and Air H. AlcKcnzie acted as groomsman. The reception was later held at the P.D.C. tearooms, where the guests were received liy Airs Kearney, sister of the bride, in the absence of the bride’s mother on account of ill-health. Airs Kearney wore a scalloped edge to edge coat of navy Alarquisette over a navy and white strijied corded sheer frock and hat to tone.

Airs Whitehead assisted, wearing a floral silk frock and model navy coat of Alatalasse, with, white accessories. Air C. Pike acted as toastmaster when the usual toasts were honoured. Numerous telegrams were received. The beautiful wedding eake, which was iced in shades of pink and white, was made and presented by the bridegroom’s mother. When the happy couple left on their tour of tho North Island the bride wore a grey tailored costume, suntan blouse and accessories.

Air and Airs G. Whitehead have now taken up their residence in Florence Avenue, Palmerston North.
