GOLD CUP DAY
MANAWATU AUTUMN MEETING FIRST DAY’S RACING Splendid weather, after an overcast morning, prevailed for the opening of the Manawatu Racing Club’s autumn meeting a the beautiful Awapuni course to-day, when the principal at motion was the Awapuni Gold Cup, the field for which, meeting a weight for age, was the most truly representative foi many years, with a clash between two New Zealand St. Leger win ners in Royal Chief and Beaupartir. The track, which has been frequently watered during the past week, was in excellent condition, and the going hrm. Conditions were ideal for the meeting, and there was a very large attendance of the public, numerous visitors enjoying the picturesque surroundings. The club’s newly installed barner, per mitting of quicker despatches, was in operation for the hrs time to-day.
