DEATH OF CONSTABLE.
MURDER CHARGES WITHDRAWN Received March 22, 8.5 a.m. SYDNEY, March 21. At the inquest into the death of Constable Lionel George Guise, who was murdered in Newtown, the Coroner found that Constable Guise died of wounds feloniously inflicted by Leslie William Murphy, who lias been committed for trial on that charge. Charges of murder against Murphy and Stanley Daymont were withdrawn. After a desperate struggle with one of two suspects at Newtown on February 25, Constable Guise, a single man, was shot in the abdomen and died several hours later in hospital. It is believed that Constable Guise was shot with his own revolver. Early the next morning a large party of police surrounded a house in tho suburb of Paddington and arrested two young men. who submitted quietly. One bad a bullet wound in his hand. Leslie William Murphy, aged 24, and Stanley Daymont, aged 28. were charged on February 27 with having murdered Constable Lionel George Guise, aged 22, at Newtown, and were remanded. Both men were further charged with breaking and entering, and charged separately with being found at night with housebreaking implements in their possession.
