PLANS COMPLETED
ALAN LOVEDAY FUND. The campaign which has been in progress for some time to raise funds for the purpose of sending Alan Loveday, the young Palmerston North violinist, overseas to further his musical education, has been successfully completed, and Mrs Loveday and her son will leave New Zealand next week. The final meeting of the local committee was held yesterday afternoon, Mr A. E. Mansford presiding. A letter was read from Lord Bledisloe, formerly Governor-General of the Dominion, who had interested himself in Alan Loveda.v’s career when resident in New Zealand, recommending, in answer to an inquiry, Dr. G. Dyson, Director ‘of the Royal College of Music, as the foremost authority in the Empire on the problem of musical education. Lord Bledisloe. who assured the commitete of his continued interest, had communicated with Dr. Dyson, whose encouraging reply was also enclosed. A proposed deed of trusteeship was submitted and approved by the Mayor, Messrs M. H. Oram and J. P. McDavitt being elected the Palmerston North trustees to act with those appointed from Christchurch and Dunedin Prior to the close of the meeting, Mr Ora m paid a tribute to the sterling service rendered the committee" by Mr McDavitt (secretary), and a motion of appreciation was carried by acclamation. The chairman endorsed what Mr Oram had said, and Mrs Loveday also conveyed her personal thanks to Mr McDavitt. On behalf of the committee Mr Mansford conveyed best wishes to Mrs Loveday and her son, and said the members would look forward to the day when the lad's efforts would he crowned with success as a worldfamed violinist. ■ He thanked Mrs Loveday for her great assistance towards the project in raising the money, which had necessitated considerable travelling and inconvenience on her part. Mrs Loveday feelingly returned thanks on behalf of her son, his father and herself for the coipmittee’s efforts. Mrs Loveday and her son will leave Palmerston North on Friday, and the meeting decided that members of the committee and representatives of various societies should extend an official farewell at morning tea in the ltosco tearooms. Alan Loveday will make his final North Island appearance in Wellington on Sunday evening, when it is hoped His Excellency the GovernorGeneral will be present. Mr Mansford will attend to offer thanks on the boy’s behalf.
