ABOUT PIANOS.
To get full richness of tone from your piano there are a number of details that deserve attention. Firstly, there is the location. The best location is when set across the corner of a room, and as far from the windows as possible. It is necessary to place it across the corner because the sound is deadened if the piano is placed flush with the wall ; arid it is desirable to got away from the windows for the sake of preserving the interior of the piano. Another factor regulating tone is the draperies in a room. Heavy cur-; tains and draperies absorb sound and i prevent the piano from yielding its full resonance when played. I The piano, whenever possible, should stand directly on wood flooring. If this is not practicable, stand it on wooden insulators. I .The satin finish on most pianos is so good that attempts at improvement with furniture oil or polish may do more harm than good. It will usually be found that polishing with a dry cloth is all that is required to restore the appearance when the surface gets dulled in damp weather. It is a mistake to keep the lid closed always when the piano is not in use. The keys are liable to go yellow j unless they have air. | Yellow piano keys can often Ire restored by cleaning them with methv- 1 lated spirits and polishing with a dry; cloth.
