POLO TOURNEY.
HANDICAP CUP MATCHES. The first handicap cup match in the polo tournament, this morning, was played by the Matangi team, comprising J. R. Ranstead, G. Hovvlett, L. Chi tty and H. Peake, and a composite four comprising E. Ferguson (Matangi), T. Gad dam (Poverty Bay), E. S. Allen (Glen Murray) and F. Klaus (Morrinsvill.-). The respective colours were old gold and red jackets. No score was made in the opening chukka. At the close of the second chukka and from a hit behind for Matangi, Peake got possession and swept the ball fast down field, where he followed up and struck a well-directed shot to the goal mouth, the ball passing cleanly between the uprights. In the third chukka Fergusson, on a fast. Arab-bred pony, goaled, the ball hitting one of the uprights in its course through. The fourth chukka produced a goal bv Ga/ldum. and a moment Inter, another by Ranstead (Matangi). Klaus also scored a goal for the composites. A penalty hit to the reds resulted in a penalty goal, Klaus taking the hit. Tn the fifth chukka. Gadtlum backhanded and Klaus scored another goal for composites.—Composites 5, Matangi 2. The concluding chukka failed to produce any alteration in the score;, the Composites thus winning by 3 points. Matangi played with a handicap of 7, while their opponents’ played with a scaled handicap.
