TERRACE END SCHOOL.
COMMITTEE MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Terrace End School Committee, last evening, Mr W. B. Tennant presided. The other members present were: Messrs R. C. Donald, J. Fyfe, L. Gardner, H. L. Cunninghame and E. P. Wix. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs 11. D. Milne and K. G. Chamberlain. The headmaster (Mr A. W. Thompson) reported that the roll number was 590, with 10 on the Hospital class roll. The average attendance was 560. Messrs Fitzherbert. Woods, and Stevenson visited the school and viewed a combined life-saving display hv the pupils from Standards 3 to 6. The following were the number of swimming certificates issued;—Width 6S, beginners 69. learners 34. proficiency 26 and merit 22; total. 219. During the month the school was visited by tho Wanganui Education Board’s inspector (Air W. J. Boden) and the adviser to tlie infant department (Miss F. E. Lawrie). A letter was received from tho secretary of the Ashhurst School committee asking for the use of the school baths for distance swimming.—Granted. A letter from the Palmerston North Post and Telegraph staff asked for permission to use the baths for an inter-staff swimming carnival to bo held soon against Wanganui.—Granted under certain conditions. A letter was received from the Wanganui Education Board regarding the erection of a building for the housing of the Kelvin Grove School bus. Miss V. J. Clover, the Standard 1 mistress, advised the committee she had received an appointment to the Whitiora School, Hamilton. It was decided to send a letter of appreciation to Miss Clover, thanking her for her services to the school.
