NORMAL WORK
ON WELLINGTON WATERFRONT RESUMING THIS AFTERNOON. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 21. Arising from the watersiders’ stopwork meeting, normal work will be resumed on the waterfront at one o’clock. Most of the men concerned in the dismissals in the past few days will be eligible for re-engagement, but owing to the increasing congestion of the port there will be a marked shortage of labour.
It is stated on behalf of the Waterside Lalx>ur Bureau that, after the manning of tlie Piako, Rangitata, Doric Star, Kara, and Foxton, the five boats principally concerned in tlie dismissals of tile past few days, 400 union men will be left.
Requisitions have been received for I UK) men, leaving a shortage of 700. (here appeai-s, however, to be an ample supply of non-union labour. It is understood all the men are being started afresh.
