KIDNAPPING OF BRITON.

HITCH IN TIENTSIN

TIENTSIN, March 19.

The three men who kidnapped Mr H. K. Dyett, chairman of the British Chamber ot Commerce, from his home in the former German ooucession drove off in a car.

It was reported that Mr Dyett’s kidnappers had been arrested and disarmed, but this was a mistake due to the misunderstanding of a telephone call from Japanese sentries who later explained that they challenged a car containing a foreigner and three Chinese on the Tientsm-Takau Road, but tile chauffeur failed to stop. The kidnapping is believed to be the first blow in a terrorist campaign .against foreigners in Tientsin. The British and American consulates have requested their nationals to evacuate the Japanese-controlled areas.

A Shanghai report states that fifty persons were killed and 50 buildings destroyed in a bombing raid on Kiangling. The American church was hit and three persons of unknown nationality were killed.
