FOLK DANCE SOCIETY.

PLANS FOR FIRST SEASON

The newlv-formed Palmerston North branch of the English Folk Dance Society held a meeting in All Saints' Ranger Den last evening. Aliss I. Stuart was in the chair and the following officers "'ere elected 1 Secretary and treasurer. Aliss AI. AVeeks • committee, J. Shepnard, Alnc--1 ntosh. AT. Sheppard (j unior representative). Tt was deckled that junior members fie charged half fees. Four members had attended the refresher course at Nelson and had .learnt many new dances as well as revising old favourites. A folk dance display, organised bv tlie socetv. and coached bv Miss I. Stuart, is to he presented for I liysioal Fitness AYeek. Aliss Stuart reported that secondary school girls and Rangm-s and Guides were helping in the display-. The opening night nCthe year was fixed for early in Afareh, and it was decided to make it an open night for visitors. An interesting programme of dances was arranged. AA bile in Svdnov Miss Stuart met several members of the Sydney Folk Dance Society, who are very keenly considering sending a team ‘ of folk dancers to New Zealand for the Centennial Celebrations. As the New Zealand refresher course is to fie held next year in AA’cllington. this idea of a visiting team created much discussion.
