AWAPUNI TRACK

CANDIDATES FOR WANGANUI. LAUGHING LASS BRILLIANT. (By “Spectator.”) Another brilliant gallop by Laughing Lass, who has not started since the last Trentham meeting but appears to be properly tuned up for her sprint engagement at Wanganui on Thursday, was a feature of the track work at Awapuni this morning.' She is in great order. The track conditions were good, but, owing to the hardness of the course proper, practically all the galloping was done on the plough, which was very suitable for the trials of horses engaged at the Wanganui meeting. Beaupartir, who is reported to be an unlikely starter in the Wanganui Cup, ran an exceptionally fast seven furlongs; the three-year-old Beau Pc re colt was never better.

Laughing Lass (Tattersall). who last week did a brilliant six furlongs, ran the best half-mile of the morning, covering the distance in 51s.scc. from a standing start, and she was going very smoothly throughout. Looking very well, Oratory (J. Pratt) ran the last four of five furlongs in 52sec. Ecstatic, who has not been asked to do much since winning at Marton, but has been in steady work, look© ready for her Wanganui engagements. She moved nicely over half a mile in 52 3-sscc., Tattersall being in the saddle. A SPLENDID GALLOP.

Beaupartir (Ireland) continued to show his great track form when he was again associated with The Bigot (Tattersall) over seven furlongs, which they cut out in the fast time of 1.31 —an exceedingly good gallop. Beaupartir was the slower of the pair away, and The Bigot held a slight advantage on him early, but Beaupartir had taken his measure in the run home, and was in front at the finish, though The Bigot went well. Beaupartir is stated to be an unlikely starter in the Wanganui Cup, but if sent to the post he would run a great race. Colonel Bogey slipped over three furlongs in 40scc Snigger (Tattersall) and the Fox Earth colt (Redstone), who is now being allotted stronger tasks, ran the same distance in 38 4-ssec. Mil lament (Ireland) finished in front- of La Bru (Tattersall), on the course proper, at the end of half a mile in 53sec. Old Surrey (Ireland) appears to be back to - his best again, and had no trouble in running six furlowrs in 1.21. White Gold (Ireland) ran seven furlongs in 1.34, but was stopping at the finish. Now that she has reproduced her track form in her races, she should run well at Wanganui. Sudan (Ireland) and Taumau (McDonald) covered seven furlongs in 1.36 3-5. The former was doing the task easily. Sporting Gift (Kanaka), who is to be piloted by the Trentham apprentice, J. Forsyth, on the first day ai. Wanganui, ran half a milo with Brazil (Ireland) in 52 3-ssec. It was Sporting Gift’s first run since racing at Pahiatua. Wild flower has been recommissioned again, and was speeded up over three furlongs. Both Diamond Cutter and Conveyer did solid pacework, the former getting through his task in a very satisfactory manner indeed. Useful exercise was allotted Pas de Chcval, Vadanoe, Sancifut. Catalogue, Lady Ina, Dainty Sue and Golden Ridge. Warohi. who is to make his debut over hurdle? at the Wanganui meeting, covered the last six of seven furlongs in 1.22£. NEWCOMERS TO AWAPUNI. Golden Garter, a four-year-old gelding by Garter Red from Orallana, recently came from Foxton to join C. M. Thom■son’s stamp. An addition to E. W. Watson’s team is a fivc-ycar-old half-brother to Lucullus Lad. By Cockpit from fairy Mark, this gelding has been hacked about on .a station. but it will take time to get him into racing trim. Now broken in and shortly to visit the track is one of. the first of the progeny of the Tlirac.ian sire The Greek. He is a colt from Sleeping Beauty (Boniform Peace), the dam of Palm and Glen Rossie, both of whom were good performers.
