POTENT UNIT

GERMAN INDUSTRY. MOTOR-CAR MANUFACTURE. FUEHRER’S CONFIDENCE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. ) Received February 18. 9.5 a.m. BERLIN, Feb. 17. Herr Hitler, in a speech at the opening of the Motor Show, said: “We are 80,000,000 Germans united in ourselves, with such magnificent consuming force in one single economic factor that we have now very favourable conditions for mass production in competition in the world markets. Our task is to lower prices and unify and simplify types.” Herr Hitler added that he had appointed a special representative to supervise and co-ordinate motor production to improve the German position in the world car markets.

The Minister of Propaganda (Dr. Goebbels), in a speech at the same function, said that ]9OO miles of motor roads had been built in Germany during the Nazi regime. The Government intended to build a further 3000 miles in the next 10 or 15 years, and these would be most important for defence purposes. Dr. Almass (president of the Reich Federation for Motor Industry) said that although raw material prices in Germany were double those of the United States car prices were being reduced because of the more extensive use of artificial materials, such as rubber, petrol and the textile component of tyres, which would shortly be artificial silk instead of cotton.
