TOURING CRICKETERS

SIR JULIEN CAHN’S TEAM. MATCH AT PALMERSTON NORTH. For several months cricket enthusiasts throughout the Dominion have been looking forward with keen anticipation to seeing in action the team which Sir Julien Calm lias brought to this country, and on Monday and Tuesday next lollowers of the game in this district will have the opportunity of seeing the visitors matched with a team representative ol the Minor Associations.

In every respect the team that Sir Julien Calm lias got together has the appearance of being the most entertaming combination that INew Zealand lias seen lor some time. It is strong, hut ‘not overwhelmingly so, and as the deadly seriousness ol Test atmosphere is unlikely to enter into the matches, there is every prospect of players and spectators enjoying inosc interesting cricket, it is expected that the visitors will play a torcing game throughout the tour, and the howling will give our players experience against almost every class ol attack.

the visiting team consists mainly of Englishmen, but it includes four Australians in Lush, AVaJsh, Mudgc and Jackson, as well as the well-known bxNew Zealand representative, C. li. Dempster. Standing eighth in the hatting list for the whole of England last season, Dempster is naturally a popular attraction in the sideband such players as Hardstall and Walsh need no introduction to those who follow the game in the Old Country. Walsh, by the way, ranks as the most interesting bowler in the team. He bowls a Jeit-hand oil-break googly, and critics predicts for him a wonderful future.

There have been no changes so far in the Minor Associations team as originally announced, and the side can produce a goodly array of talent. Oil the bowling side the attack will be led by T. L. Pritchard and N. Galliehan, the Manawatu and New Zealand representatives, and the batsmen include J. Murchison and Norris (Manawatu) and Petersen (Wairarapa). The visitors will arrive in the city on .Sunday afternoon, and arrangements are already in hand to make their stay enjoyable. There will lie no official entertainment, but during their stay the visitors will be extended the privilege of honorary membership of the Manawatu Club, the Manawatu Golf Club, and the Palmerston North Golf Club. Local picture theatres have very generously offered to entertain the visitors and their hosts free of charge, while on Tuesday evening games ot badminton and tenikoits are being arranged at the Showgrounds and visitors may also be the guests of the Squash Rackets Club.
