KAIRANGA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) K AIR AN GA, Feb. 15. There was a large attendance of members at the February meeting of the Kairanga Women’s Institute. Airs W. AleClelland presided and extended a welcome to all present. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames C. Hyde, A. Divehall, F. Cummins, and eße. The motto for the month was: “Let us leave the world a little better for the things we do.” In the absence of the secretary, Airs Davey took her place. Correspondence was read from the Longburn group arranging a committee meeting, also from Mr P. T. Toomer, thanking the institute members for their Christmas parcels for the lepers at, Alakogai. This year, instead of the usual picnic arrangements were made for a trip to Wanganui. It was announced that the school was holding a gala day next month and help from the institute members was asked. Miss Johnson, of Alassey College, gave a talk explaining the box lectures. Several questions were asked which Miss Johnson answered. At the close of the lecture Mrs Davey proposed a vote of thanks to the speaker which was carried by acclamation. Davey 2, Mrs H. Turner 3; jam, Mrs H. Turner 1, Mrs E. Kiigour _2, Mrs 1,. Clark 3. Juniors: Posy, Mis 6 E. Burrnristcr 1. Afternoon tea was served bv Mesdames J. Clark and J. Burmeistcr and Miss Cooper. Competitions for March are three blooms and a decorated one lb. Jam jar of flowers for both seniors and juniors. The roll call will be a health hint. The hostesses are Mrs Davey and Mi.'-t-cs Small and Eglinton. A social afternoon will be held after the annual meeting. A committee meeting will be held before the March meeting. At th monthly meeting of the School Committee fhe following were present:— Messrs E. Kiigour (chairman). G. Davey, O. Collis, G. Collis. A. Divehall. and the head teacher (Mr F. Cummins). The school opened with a roll number of 49 pupils. It was decided that the annual picnic be held at the Awapuni racecourse. School requirements were left in the hands of the head teacher. The friends of Mr C. Hyde will be pleased to leant that he has returned from hospital, and is progressing favourably, after his recent accident when he fell from a stack of baled hay.
