SUMMER SPORTS.

NORTHERN CLUB. At a meeting of the general committee of the Northern Club, held last evening, a letter was received from Mr John Permain enclosing a donation to the club funds as a gesture of appreciation fo pleasure derived during the recent New Zealand croquet championship tournament when the headquarters were domiciled at the Northern Club and the principal games played on the lawns of the club. Ten new members were elected. The croquet ladies were thanked for the excellence of the catering arrangements during the recent croquet championships, which resulted in a substantial credit for the club funds. Appreciation was also expressed of the work done by the City Council staff in the asphalting of the paths. It was decided to ask Mr J. C. Young to act as green supervisor in place of Mr J. Kershaw, who had resigned from the position. The president thanked Mr Kershaw for his services and said the club’s greens were in excellent order.

The club proposes to take part in the cavalcade on February 25 organised in connection with Fitness Week. Mr Larccmb was appointed organiser for the club’s representation, and Mrs Lee and Mr N. Rees were appointed to assist in the arrangements on behalf of the croquet and tennis sections respectively. The club is sending a letter to Mr R. McKee, a valued member, who has gone to Auckland to reside, expressing its appreciation of his services in the past. . It was decided that during Fitness Week the club’s greens will be available to members of the public who contemplate taking up a branch of sport for which the club caters. CLUB COMPETITIONS.

The club’s bowling championship singles title has been won by R. Connor. he having beaten P. Skoglund in the final. The colts’ singles section has been won by W. Puklowski, ho having played off with C. R. Kenning. The pairs contest produced a great final, the contestants being J. Kershaw and P. Skoglund, last year’s winners, and R. Connor and C. Anderson. The latter pair, after a close game, won by 20 points to 18. There are five rinks entered to play off under the tine-life system to see which rink will represent the club in the centre’s championship.
