(From Our Own Correspondent.) MILSON, Feb. 15.
The monthly meeting of the Alilson School Committee was held on Tuesday, Mr O. Bennetto presiding: also present wore Messrs J. Baton, J. Johnson, ('. W illiamson, F. Collett and L. Robertson (secretary). The chairman asked members to stand in silence as a token of sympathy with Mr and Mrs Board and family in their recent bereavement, they having lost their daughter (who was a pupil of the school) during the Christmas recess. It was also decided to "forward a letter of sympathy to Mr and 'Mrs Board. The arrangements were finalised for the picnic at the Ashhurst Domain. The children are being conveyed from Alilson to Ashhurst by buses. The headmaster (Mr M. R. MoJSwen) reported: Tile present roll number is 115. The new infant mistress (Miss C. A. Butement) commenced her duties on the opening of the school on February 6. The following pupils were successful in gaining certificates for swimming: 880 yards, Nancy Kidd, lan Rowan, and Trevor Ferguson'; 220yds, Pat Johnston and Mavis Paulding. The Milson Women’s Institute held their annual picnic on the Awapuni Racecourse on Saturday in ideal weather, there being a good attendance of members and their children. Mrs Cutten expressed regret that tlic president (Airs Murphy) was unable to be present through illness, all expressing a wish for her speedy recovery. A programme of laces and novelty ewents was carried out under the direction of Airs M. Woods and Aliss E. Prentice (secretary). The winners were : Five and under, Claude Cleniments 1, Alargarot Woods 2, Dorrecn Downing 3: girls 7-9, Jean AloDonald 1, Julio CleinmenL 2, Elaine Wood 3; 8-10, Jack Davies 1, Jack Arlidge 2, Murray Pike 3; girls 11 and 12, Edna Thompson 1, Greta Cleniments 2, Betty Buhner 3; 13 and over, Nola Bulmcr 1, Nalic CTemnicnt s2, Nola Pearce 3; spider race, girls, Betty Bulmor 1, Julie Cleniments 2, Joan McDonald 3; boys, Claude Cleniments 1, Jack Arlidge 2, Murray Pike 3; chain-stepping, Mrs Woods 1; ladies’ race. Miss Urcn 1, Mrs Casey 2, Miss Richardson 3; novelty, Miss M. Proctor 1, Mrs Hammond 2: children’s novelty, Edward Richardson 1; i bowling competition, Airs Hammond 1, Air.- Downing 2.
