OUTSIDER’S SUCCESS.
INCIDENT AT AUCKLAND TROTS. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 16. One man at least on the Alexandra Park racecourse yesterday was momentarily shocked into speechlessness at Cyrano won the last race, the Richmond Handicap, to return a dividend of nearly a century and a-quarter, a record for the course. For half an hour that man had fingered his last pound while endeavouring to find an outside which might win. He was Mr R. August, son of the trainer and driver of the ’despised Cyrano, but it never occurred to him that liis heart s desire was in the business. Only £l3 was invested on the winner for a win and only £39 I.os for a place. One of the part owners of the horse had less than half a ticket on him, while the driver, S. M. xiugust, failed to support him at all.
