AUSTRALIAN IN BOMBAY

SWINDLING CHARGES

SYDNEY, Jan. 23.

The case in which John AYoolcottForbes is charged with swindling was resumed to-day when the evidence disclosed that Woolcott-Forbes’s sharebroking firm in Sydney in 1937 advanced him £12,500 on .security of fully paid shares in the Producers’ and General Finance Corporation. Other loans in 19.38 brought the total to £17,500.

A woman clerk testified that 100 share certificate forms given as security for a portion of the advances to Woolcott-Forlxis boro the niimliers corresponding to those missing from the scrip book referred to by earlier witnesses.

The Magistrate granted an extradition order.

John Woolcott-Forbes, who is widely known in commercial and racing circles in Sydney, was arrested by the Bombay police in accordance with cabled instructions from the Sydney police when the liner Strathnaver arrived there. In the meantime, Douglas Jowett Bush was arrested in Brisbane on the charge that he conspired and agreed with WoolcottForbes and other persons to defraud the Producers and General Finance Corporation and other persons of large sums of money. An application lo extradite WoolcottForbes from Bombay was made on January 20 in the Central Police Court, Sydney, when considerable evidence with regard to the affairs of the Producers' and General Finance Corporation was given by the managing-director. Mr Albert Pollow, whose testimony was mainly directed at a missing scrip book and certain corti ficates, and his conversations with a fellow director and Woolcott-Forbos concerning their disappearance.
