ITALIAN INFLUENCE
CREDITS FOR YUGOSLAVIA.
ARMAMENTS PRODUCTION. RAPPROCHEMENT PLANS. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received January 24, 12.2 U p.m. ROME, Jan. 23. The far-reaching importance of the visit of Count Ciano (Italian Foreign Minister) to Belg'rade is revealed by the disclosure that negotiations are proceeding for a military alliance between Yugoslavia and Italy.
Italy has granted 500 million lire as credits for the purchase of Italian Armaments, and plans are under way to build a factory at Belgrade to produce tanks, aeroplane motors and trucks. Count Ciano has effected an Hun-garian-Rumanian rapprochement and has reconciled Yugoslavia and Rumania. His trip not only knits the Balkan bloc closer to the Pome-Berlin axis, but wipes out the last vestiges of French influence in the Balkans.
