MR S. M. BRUCE HOME.

CO-OPERATION OF DEMOCRACIES

SYDNEY, Jan. 23,

The Australian High Commissioner (Mr S. M. Bruce) and the Premier of Ontario (Mr Mitchell Hepburn) received a cordial welcome from a large gathering of representative citizens at the wharf to-dn.y.

In an interview Mr Bruce said that if peace was to be maintained and the ideals for which the democracies stood were to endure, then the democracies would have to co-operate. Australia thus had an important part to play, Mr Bruce added. He was quite sure that the people would rise to whatever heights circumstances demanded in the future. Mr Bruce said that his most important immediate engagements would be with the Australian Defence Council in Melbourne on Wednesday. ,
