WOOL MARKET
SECOND AUCKLAND SALE.
RIGID LIMITS MAINTAINED.
Per Press Aseociatio' n
AUCKLAND, Jan. 24. The second Auckland wool sale of the season opened to-day with an offering of 2-1,000 bales, before a bench of about sixty buyers. Less than a dozen were responsible for most of the bidding. The wool, in both quality and condition. was not equal to that offered at the first sale in November and was below the standard of the usual second sale. This was due to unfavourable winter conditions.
Bidding was particularly keen from the front benches, representing Bradford and Continental buyers, but the limits were obviously very rigid, and on a basis similar to that ruling at the last Dominion sale at AVanganui, this being from Id to l)d loss than was obtained at the Auckland November sale. In the first catalogue fleece wools generally ranged from Sd to 9d per pound, and special prices were obtained for seven bales of Ryeland fine crossbred. AVaiheke halfbred wool ras passed in at 11 ~d and seven bales of Corriedale under the brand Alangatangi brought 14|d. As near as could be judged, the passings on the first catalogue approximated 15 per cent.
