POTATOES CHEAPER.
PUKEKOHE VEGETABLE MARKET
PUKEKOHE, Jan. 23,
Increasing supplies of Pukekohe potatoes are now coining forward from growers and prices have declined 2s a ewt. since last Monday, to-day’s figure being 8s 6d a ewt. f.o.r. Pukekohe. The lower price appears to have stimulated the demand, and the market is fairly firm at the new level. Growers of Pukekohe onions are still busy preparing supplies for export, and some ‘2OO tons .are to go forward this week for shipment to Australia. Meanwhile the local price remains at 15s 6d a ewt.
Cabbages remain at 7s 6d a sack and 5s 6d a chapman bag. blit carrots aro cheaper, to-day’s price being 7s fid a sugar bag as against 9s a week ago. French Iteuns aro the same, 7-s fid a case, but beetroot are at 5s a sugar bag, which is 6d dearer than last week. Marrows are Js Gd a dozen against 4s .a week ago. Red Warren pumpkins are a new line this season; so far they aro going out at 12s a ewt. Rhubarb is selling at 4s 6d a dozen bundles, lettuce at 4s Gd a case, and tomatoes at Gs .-i ease.
