HEALTH-RECRUITING VISIT,

Much benefited in health by a leisurely tour in the South Sea Islands, Earl Beatty, son of the late Admiral of tho Fleet, arrived at Auckland with Countess Beatty from Suva this afternoon to spend a fortnight in tho Dominion.

Earl Beatty, who is aged 33, had a severe hunting accident in February of last year. He left England three months ago on a trip round the world, in the first place to recuperate, and secondly to visit branches of the Navy League, in which he has long been interested. Since 1937 he has been chairman of the league in England, under the presidency of Lord Lloyd. Earl Beatty had pleasant recollections of a former visit to New Zealand as a midshipman in H.M.S. Danae, of the Imperial Special Service Squadron. He said he very much wished to remain in Auckland long enough to see the anniversary regatta, because he was particularly interested ill the plan launched by the Auckland branch of the Navy Lehgue for training yachtsmen in advanced seamanship. He and the countess also hoped that they would have time for a little fishing at Rotorua or

Taupo. Tho carl is to he present at the New Zealand conference of the Navy League in Wellington on February 3, and during his stay there he will adadress a public gathering. He and the countess will leave Wellington for Sydney on February 7.
