When play this morning was continued in the championship doubles and the handicap doubles several good matches were witnessed. In the championship doubles it is particularly noticeable that tactics play an important part in the game, and with the balls generally at a disadvantage it is the player who cannot only play a break, but build one, that gains the admiration of the onlookers and succeeds in securing a runaway lead. Descriptions of matches are as follow :

Open championship.—H. A. Penn v. Mrs Anstis: In and out play was a feature of the game until Penn, collecting a break, went from the first hoop to the rover, peeling his backward ball through the first hoop. Airs Anstis made several small breaks, but Penn held the lead throughout, finishing 20—18. Izevel singles, semi-final. —Mrs Mills v. Mrs Hill: Both these players were evenly matched. Airs Hill soon established a lead which was levelled l>v her opponent in .a short time, and from then on the clips were fairly even. Through Airs Mills baulking at 3 back, her opponent, being for the same hoop, was able to make four points, finishing to the peg. a.nd from then on Airs Mills did not again cet the balls, the score ending 26—29 in favour ol Afrs Hill, who is now waiting for the other section to be completed l>efore playing off in the finals.
