Rusiness was largely limited to tlie closing- of commitments before settlement owing to tlie general malaise, due both to international and domestic reasons .
There is even a feeling of satisfaction that changes, on the balance, are no worse. Nevertheless, resistance to a decline has been imparted by the fact that many shares are standing at normally attractive levels by the psychological effect of the recovery of sterling and the expectation that selected industries will enjoy a favourable year. A rally of German bonds late on Friday, after the fall owing to Dr. Schacht’s dismissal, is attributed to German official buying.
