FIERCE BATTLE.
ATTACK ON IGUALADA
LONDON, Jan. 20
A very fierce battle is waging at Igualada, the Nationalist final stepping stone to Barcelona 30 miles distant, with General Franco hammering at the gates and war ’planes bombing the population. The general advance has penetrated a further six miles into the heart of Catalonia forcing back the Republicans to the “iron-belt,” and encircling the capital in which there is general mobilisation, resulting ;n all men being sent to the front.
This latter move threatens to cripple philantrophic work. Twelve Britons are helping to administer Quaker relief organisations, feeding 6000 children. All the civilians are in a critical position owing to a lood shortage.
