SAFETY ON ROADS.
APPEAL BY MAYOR. During the five days of the Christ-mas-New Year holiday period last year, 15 persons were killed and 100 injured, 36 of them seriously, in traffic accidents, a number of which occurred in built-up areas and involved pedestrians and cyclists. Following upon a communication received from the Commissioner of Transport, the Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford)' makes the following appeal to the public through the “Standard”:—
“I would- specially appeal to all motorists and pedestrians to exercise the greatest care during the - forthcoming holiday period as this time last year fifteen people were killed and one hundred injured in New Zealand. These were all traffic accidents and involved motorists, cyclists and pedestrians, so that it behoves all users of our roads and highways to exercise the greatest caution and by so doing they will save loss of life and unnecessary suffering.”
