KUMEROA-HOPELANDS.

When members of the KumeroaHopelands Women’s Institute held their annual Christinas tree party children and friends attended in large numbers to spend an enjoyable evening. About 9 p.m. Santa Claus arrived dressed in full regalia, all the children receiving presents, balloons, and squeakers from the gaily decorated Christmas tree. Ice-creams in charge of Mrs Sinclair and Miss J. Brown were served in the supper-room, the adults as well as the children thoroughly enjoying the innovation. A sumptuous supper, served to the children, had been generously provided by the ladies of the district. A' competition for a cake donated by Mrs Brown and iced by ,Mrs I. Mackay was won by Mr Burke, of Palmerston North. A dainty apron donated by Mrs Robb was won by Gladys Jones. Both these gifts brought in a good sum for the Christmas party funds. The three local schools provided an enjoyable concert programme as follows: Pianoforte solo, Nancy East; mouth-organ Michael D’Ath; Irish jig, Roslein O’Neil; recitation, Doreen Smyth; sailor’s, hornpipe, Molly and Eileen O’Neil; pianoforte solo, Beryl Smyth; plavette, Gladvs Jones, Shirley Bryant, Violet Robb, Gordon Davis, and Bryan Bryant. After supper dancing was indulged in b.v the adults, the music being supplied by Mr G. Fairley, and was continued until midnight when a most enjoyable evening was brought to a close. Mr W. Miller officiated as M.C.
