OIL SHARES ACTIVE. SYDNEY, Aug. 26. There was no outstanding feature on the Sydney Stock Exchange to-day beyond a lively demand for Oil Search shares, which moved up from 8s 3d to 8s 9d. Taranaki also advanced to 14s. Investors were not pressing to s6U, most bargaining being within narrow limits, resulting n all-round steadiness. Sales included: —-Bank of New South Wales, £3l 2s 6d; Commercial Bank of Sydney, N.Z. delivery, £2O 7s; Colonial Sugar, £47 7s 6d; Associated News, £1 2s 6d; ditto, pref., £1 3s 6d; Burns, philp, £2 12s; British Tobacco, £2 9s; DunlopPerdriau, £1 2s 3d; David Jones, £1 19s 3d; Anthony Hordern, -17 s; Australian Gypsum, £1 Is 6d; Sydney Ferries, 6s Id; Permewan, Wright, £1 9s' 3d; "William Adams, 16s; ditto, now, paid, 15s; R. Fowler, lis lOd; Wa'rburton Franki, £l2s 6d; Taubmans, S2 19s; Goldsbrough Mort, £1 8s; Wilcox Mofflin, 6s sd; Henry Jones, £2 10s; Mount Morgan, lis 3d; ditto, N.Z. delivery, lis 2d; Rawang Tin, 8s 6d; Emperor Gold, 12s 9d; Taranaki Oil," 14s. MELBOURNE, Aug. 26. On the Stock Exchange, of Melbourne today short-dated loans wore in demand. Leading industrials and Barriers continued fa improve on better news from overstas. Interest was maintained in bank stocks. There was more activity in oil-prospccting stocks with Taranakis prominent.
